This poem emerged out of an actual encounter with a long-legged spider in my kitchen yesterday. Sometimes the simplest observation (and a bit of research) can bring up some pretty major insights.
Bravely, Or perhaps just because it had to, A long-legged, thin-bodied Spider Emerged from the bottom of the empty sink Up through the drying rack that squatted in there. Slowly, Deliberately one long leg Placed perfectly after another Eight times And then again by eight, it moved forward easily, Amazingly up the smooth porcelain sides. Transfixed I watched in admiration. The famed tortoise has nothing on a Long-legg'd Spider on an unhurried mission to move Beneath a toaster oven on the counter.
