The dawn fingers of gratitude begin with the first action of the day on my little deck - holding a glass of plain water up to the light I look about me. Streaks of grey clouds sweeping over a pale sky unexpected new buds on the late-fall rose bush a bird scolding from the depths of a tree still in leaf. Holding a hot wet cloth on my morning face noting I have hot water that comes right out of the faucet, noting many others don’t have water at all. Coffee in a favorite handmade mug a gift from a love long past - Gratitude for that relationship no matter how it ended. The clicking of a small dog’s nails on the kitchen floor eagerly reminding me he is a breakfast eater (even if I am not).
